A recap of Week 9 of the NFL season.
Welcome to Glass Slipper! 32 points on 14-16 shooting for Kam Jones yesterday. I’m trying to tell you guys; please enjoy the show.
- Jacob Rhee
Here are my 10 biggest takeaways from Week 9 of the NFL season.
The best catch in NFL history?
The single greatest catch I’ve ever seen on a football field was Calvin Johnson’s one-hander at Georgia Tech. I honestly think Megatron might be the only person in the history of human civilization that could’ve made that play.
If we’re only talking about the NFL, Garrett Wilson just made a pretty strong submission to take the crown. CJ Stroud must’ve been having Columbus flashbacks on the opposing sideline.
Swag Surfin’.
Falcons games feel like an event for the first time since 2016-17. I won’t mention how that campaign ended.

The Braves fell short of the NLDS for the first time in seven years, and the Hawks are headed for the lottery. Atlanta needs something to root for, and Raheem Morris is delivering the goods in his second run with the franchise.
The tank is on.
Dak Prescott is hurt, but not all is lost. Cowboys fans, did you know that Ashton Jeanty played his high school ball right up the road at Lone Star High School? I figured I’d let you know. Wouldn’t that be fun?
I’m a Bo Nix guy.
Nix’s Broncos lost by 31 on Sunday, and he finished with zero passing touchdowns and a one interception. Yet, this was the performance that managed to win me over. I love dudes who battle, and Bo hung in there against a terrifying defense after tossing that aforementioned pick on his very first throw. His final numbers on the year won’t be anything special, but I think Denver has its franchise quarterback.
The climb.
Bryce Young is smiling!
Happy for that QB.

He looks more comfortable, more confident, and much, much happier. I don’t care what anyone says, I still believe he has a long, successful career ahead of him.
D’Ernest is down there somewhere!
The Jaguars were down 22-0 to the Eagles with 21 minutes remaining, in Philadelphia. They clawed back into it, and everything was set up for a Trevor Lawrence hero moment. And then… huh? What’s this? Golden Boy chucked up a 50-50 ball to… D’Ernest Johnson? The third-string running back with 49 catches in six professional seasons? It was picked off, because of course it was.
69 touchdown passes and 67 turnovers for Lawrence in his career. $275 million.
Up for grabs.
The Defensive Player of Year award always feels like a three-man race between the NFL’s trio of premier edge rushers. But Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, and Nick Bosa all have seven sacks or less. Could we get a new winner?
I would love for Trey Hendrickson to grab it. He’s up to 11 sacks, after obliterating Las Vegas on Sunday. The Bengals had the first pick of the draft in 2020, and were in the Super Bowl less than two years later; I’d argue that Joe Burrow is the only person that deserves more individual credit for that turnaround than Trey.
But if I had to cast a vote right now, I’m giving the trophy to Lions safety Kerby Joseph. He was awesome at Illinois, and the man has been out of his mind this season.
Who is the second-best rookie in the NFL?
No need to answer that. It’s Jared Verse.
Jared Verse plays with a healthy disdain for anyone attempting to block him.

The kid is unbelievable.
Joe Flacco, it’s time.
Hey, we should probably call it a career. Thank you for preventing Jim Harbaugh from winning a Super Bowl in 2013; the mission is complete. Brian Flores just looked you in the eyes on national television and giggled in your face for three hours. Let’s hang those cleats up.
Time to peek ahead.
Both Heisman-winning LSU quarterbacks are enjoying MVP-caliber seasons, and each faces a tough test in Week 10. Joe Burrow is in Baltimore on Thursday evening, and Jayden Daniels hosts Pittsburgh three days later.
Then, Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth get to witness a great matchup for the first time since September. The scorching-hot Lions travel to Houston on Sunday Night Football.

We’re going to win the division.
