Five bold predictions for the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs.
Welcome to Glass Slipper! Don’t look up Cody Williams’ stats; please enjoy the show.
- Jacob Rhee
I unexpectedly extended my college football picks into the postseason, because I felt like handing out more prizes. Let’s do the same with the NFL. The rules haven’t changed; each time a prediction is wrong, it costs me $10 in rewards. I’ll make five picks for each of the four rounds of the playoffs. You’re getting 20 extra chances to inflate the Prize Pot. Keep on rooting against me!
Prediction 1: Travis Kelce scores a touchdown.
There’s no doubt that Kelce has lost a step. The production is down, and those slippery rumbles down the field don’t feel quite the same anymore. But we also know that Andy Reid intentionally keeps him in the garage during the regular season. Now that the playoffs are here, the future Hall of Famer is going to post big numbers.
Travis only scored three times this year; he’ll find his way into the end zone today against DeMeco Ryans’ tough group.
Prediction 2: Washington and Detroit combine for 60+ points.
Jayden Daniels is already matchup-proof. Line him up against the whole All-Pro First Team, and I’ll still trust him to move the ball.
David Montgomery is somehow back, and Ben Johnson has had two weeks to cook up a couple more spoonfuls of his signature magic. I’m not envisioning a lot of punts in this one.
Prediction 3: The Rams sack Jalen Hurts two times or less.
Jared Verse is the best defensive player left on the NFC side of the bracket. Yes, he finished in a tie for 95th in the sack race. I’m aware, and I do not care. Watch the tape.
Unfortunately for Los Angeles, this young front seven that just humiliated Minnesota is now staring at a downright impenetrable offensive line. Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson might be the most dominant tackle duo I’ve personally ever seen, and the young interior guys continue to sharpen. Jalen Hurts should have plenty of time to operate.
Prediction 4: Josh Allen throws at least one interception.
15 picks in 2021. 14 in 2022. 18(!!) in 2023. Six this season? You’re not fooling me, pal. Allen is still a gunslinger at heart, and he’ll revert back to his sloppy roots on a massive stage tomorrow night.
Prediction 5: Baltimore beats Buffalo by 4+ points.
The Ravens have taken the field five times since dropping that tight one to Philadelphia in Week 13. They’ve outscored their opponents by a total of 106 points. There’s just no way I’m picking against these dudes.
The guy wearing the white helmet will probably take home the MVP in February; it’s the runner-up that will shine brightest in this one, though. Baltimore strides into Orchard Park, and sends the Bills packing.
Wild Card Round Results: 2-3
Overall Season Picks Record: 31-64
Current NFL Prize Pot: $640

I’d probably quit football if I had to play for somebody else.
