My Week 14 college football predictions.
Welcome to Glass Slipper! Pour it on today, Buckeyes; please enjoy the show.
- Jacob Rhee
Each Saturday morning of the college football regular season, I will be predicting the outcome of the six best games of the weekend. Every time I pick the wrong team to win, it costs me $15. At the end of the year, I will use the total pot of money to buy gifts for random Glass Slipper subscribers. That’s right; you literally benefit from my failures. Let’s go.
Game 1: No. 15 South Carolina vs No. 12 Clemson
The pick: Clemson wins, 37-24.
The Tigers slotted in at No. 14 in the preseason AP poll. Their campaign has been somewhat disappointing to this point, and yet they sit two spots higher now. That’s pretty dumb.
It’s been four long years since Dabo Swinney reached the playoff, and that Death Valley crowd is hungry for another appearance. Clemson pulls away late, and dashes the Gamecocks’ lofty title hopes.
Game 2: Michigan vs No. 2 Ohio State
The pick: Ohio State wins, 45-20.
Time’s up. Get it done.
Game 3: No. 6 Miami (FL) vs Syracuse
The pick: Miami (FL) wins, 34-32.
Careful, careful, careful. Losing to the Orange, falling short of the ACC championship game, and making the fan base sweat out Selection Sunday would be such a ‘Canes thing to do. You have to take care of business here.
The very mention of Kyle McCord’s name brings up bad memories for me, but he’s certainly capable of posting big numbers against this questionable Lance Guidry defense. I have Cam Ward producing some more of his signature fourth-quarter magic to steal this one.
Game 4: No. 5 Notre Dame vs USC
The pick: Notre Dame wins, 28-13.
I took USC before the season, but I don’t possess the guts to stick with that prediction. The Irish are significantly better in every facet, and should have no issues securing their invitation to the bracket.
Riley Leonard - whose play style strangely reminds me of JT Barrett - has quietly put together a very nice year. 26 total touchdowns and two interceptions since the Northern Illinois disaster. I’ll take that all day.
Game 5: No. 24 Kansas State vs No. 18 Iowa State
The pick: Kansas State wins, 30-21.
It’s only right that no squad in the Big 12 controls its own destiny. This race to the title game has devolved into an absolute mess down the stretch, and attempting to understand all of the scenarios is essentially a futile task.
I still think the Wildcats are the best team in the conference when they bring their A+ stuff. Dreams of a playoff berth have faded significantly, but Chris Klieman’s group will put together a strong performance to close the regular season nonetheless.
Game 6: No. 3 Texas vs No. 20 Texas A&M
The pick: Texas A&M wins, 31-27.
Bitter in-state rivals clashing for the first time in 13 years, with a spot in the SEC championship game hanging in the balance. It’s going to be so much fun.
Mike Elko came back to College Station for stages like this. The Aggies will be energized by an otherworldly home atmosphere, and I expect a flurry of haymakers early. Marcel Reed outplays Quinn Ewers, and Texas A&M punches a ticket to Atlanta.
Week 13 Results: 4-2
Overall Season Picks Record: 57-21
Current CFB Prize Pot: $315
